Buses to and from North Tenerife Airport with Bus Routes and Times
Tenerife North Airport provides an important gateway to the largest of Spain's Canary Islands, known as Tenerife. It is the smaller of the two international airports on the island, serving approximately four million passengers per year. Tenerife North Airport is located, as its name suggests, on the northern side of Tenerife, and just 11 km from Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the island's capital city and a major tourist destination. The airport is owned and operated by the Spanish airport authorities of Aena, and is well equipped for the needs of arriving and departing passengers. A number of bus services provide public transport to and from Tenerife North Airport, and by bus is always a cost effective form of transport at any airport.
Tenerife North Airport consists of a multi-leveled terminal building, which handles both domestic and international air traffic. There are ten boarding gates on the upper level for departing passengers, as well as another six for the exclusive use of inter-island passengers on the ground floor, as the airport plays an important role in connecting all seven of the Canary Islands. Arriving passengers enter on the mezzanine level of the airport building, and continue down to the ground floor, to where the baggage reclaim carousels are found. Just outside the arrivals area, passengers will find the bus stops, from where buses depart to various destinations in Tenerife. Although a slightly slower means of transport, buses are often preferred over taxis for their lower costs. The buses which serve the island of Tenerife are also reliable, and provide transport to all the main cities and towns in the area.
From Tenerife North Airport, the bus lines 102, 107, 108 and 340 depart at regular intervals to their destinations. The main destination of the Line 102 bus is Santa Cruz, stopping at the Guaguas Station. The bus then travels on to the Botanical Gardens of Puerto de la Cruz. Bus 107 travels from Tenerife North Airport to Santa Cruz as well, and to Buenavista, with stops that include Puente de la Matanza, Puente de la Victoria, Realejo Bajo and San Juan de la Rambla. The third bus, know as the Line 108, provides further transport to Santa Cruz, as well as to Icod de la Vinos, with a couple of stops which are similar to the Line 107 bus. The Line 340 is another bus which travels to Puerto de la Cruz, but this is the bus to catch if you need to transfer to the other airport on the island, known as Tenerife South Airport, which is located in the municipality of Granadilla de Abona, towards the southern coastline of Tenerife.
The majority of the destinations mentioned above are found along the northern coastline of Tenerife, but it is also possible to take another bus to southern areas of the island, such as the famous and most popular holiday resort of Playa de las Américas. However, passengers must first travel to Santa Cruz and then catch the Line 111 bus to this resort, the Line 115 bus to Las Galletas or the Line 116 bus to Granadilla. Las Galletas is located on the southern tip of Tenerife, just past the Tenerife South Airport. The main roads leading along the coastlines of the island are the TF-5 and the TF-1.
The bus company in charge of the buses at Tenerife North Airport and those which travel the island in general, is TITSA, or the Transportes Interurbanos de Tenerife. TITSA has become one of the most important providers of public transport in the country, and offers a full range of interurban transport services for road travelers in Tenerife. The buses of TITSA run 24 hours a day, throughout the year, and between approximately 3,700 bus stops on the island. They run a very modern fleet of 550 buses, all fitted with the latest technology regarding braking and protection systems, as well as comfort systems, such as air conditioning and comfortable seating. The most recent additions to TITSA's fleet of vehicles are EEV buses, or Enhanced Environmental-Friendly Vehicles, with lower emissions of carbon dioxide and other harmful substances into our environment. The majority of TITSA buses are also suitable for the use of disabled passengers. Disabled passengers arriving at Tenerife Airport can make enquiries as to whether a bus for their needs is available on the route they wish to travel at the time of their arrival flight. TITSA's official website can be found at www.titsa.com.
When travelling by bus in Tenerife, various travel cards are available. There are €12 and €30 travel cards for use on all buses, including urban and interurban services, and a €40 monthly travel card, valid for the exclusive use on bus services in the metropolitan area, which includes Santa Cruz de Tenerife, La Laguna, El Rosario and Tequeste. Both travel cards can be used on the tram as well. Passengers on the bus may also pay in cash for a single journey, but the maximum amount for which the driver is able to give change is €10.
Other forms of bus transport available at Tenerife North Airport are shared minibuses operated by various private companies which travel between the airport and popular resort areas on the island, and hotel shuttles, which are usually complimentary transport services offered by the place of accommodation. Many large hotel establishments offer their own buses for transport to and from the airport for their customers. Smaller hotel groups may even share the transport services offered by the larger hotel chains. Hotel shuttle services should be reserved in advance, at the time of booking the accommodation.
Further information regarding the bus services at Tenerife North Airport can be obtained from the information and tourist desks within the airport terminal building.
