Flight Arrivals at Tenerife Los Rodeos Airport

Tenerife North Airport is a major gateway to the beautiful island of Tenerife, filled with attractions of all sorts for local and international tourists. Tenerife is the largest of Spain's famous Canary Islands, and is also a UNESCO World Heritage site for the third largest volcano in the world. Other attractions on the island include lovely natural beaches, historical sights and entertaining nightlife. Tenerife North Airport is the perfect arrival point for holiday makers, and has all the facilities required by arriving passengers. The airport is also served by a number of airline carriers, and is found just a few kilometers from Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the capital city of the island.

Tenerife North Airport is located approximately 11 km, or 6.8 miles from Santa Cruz, and is in the municipality of San Cristobal. There is also another airport on the island, known as Tenerife South Airport, and this airport is approximately 60 km from Tenerife North Airport. The airports handle a different variety of passengers. Tenerife North is mainly an inter-island hub, with connections to all seven Canary Islands, which include Gran Canaria, La Palma, La Gomera, El Hierro, Lanzarote and Fuerteventura. This airport also handles many passengers travelling from mainland Spain, as its busiest route is to Madrid-Barajas, with over a million passengers per year, and over forty flights per day. On the other hand, Tenerife South is known for its international traffic, to various regions in Europe and other parts of the world. Together, the two airports handle the highest passenger movements in the Canary Islands and approximately eleven million passengers per annum.

Passengers arriving on flights from the other Canary Islands will use the airline carriers of Binter Canarias & NAYSA or Islas Airways, while the airline companies of Vueling Airlines, Air Europa and Iberia handle the majority of flights to and from mainland Spanish airports, such as Madrid, Seville, Barcelona and Malaga. Another two airline companies serving Tenerife North Airport are Santa Barbara Airlines and Finnair.

The arrivals area of Tenerife North Airport is on the ground floor, but passengers will enter the terminal building on the mezzanine level, via one of the six air-bridges. The check-in desks and some boarding gates for inter-island flights are also found on the ground floor. The airport has six baggage reclaim carousels, one of which is for special baggage. Within the arrivals area, passengers will find the car hire companies that offer vehicles for hire from the airport, which include Avis, Hertz, Sixt, Europcar, National and Goldcar. Goldcar is one of the local car rental companies that are very popular in Spain. Renting a car is an excellent way to move around the island of Tenerife, as there are a couple of main roads which link the major tourist centers. All the car hire companies at the airport offer competitive rental rates and a wide range of quality vehicles.

By car, arriving passengers will leave via the TF-5, which is the airport's main access road, and can follow the TF-1 south, towards Tenerife South Airport, located in Granadilla de Abona, or even the popular holiday resort of Playa de las Américas. The TF-5 runs along the north coast of Tenerife to Buenavista del Norte. Santa Cruz de Tenerife is one of the major centers for tourism on the island, with many appealing attractions. It has an amazing opera house, a number of classical buildings and large public squares with excellent restaurants. Santa Cruz is also a busy port town, from where ferries can be taken too many destinations. The nearest hotel to Tenerife North Airport is the Silken Atlantida, ideal for arriving passengers who will just have a short stop-over in Tenerife, or the Sheraton Mencev Hotel, approximately 7 miles away. Accommodation to suit all budgets can be found within Santa Cruz, and generally in all areas of Tenerife. It is recommended to reserve a room at the resort of your choice, especially during the summer months of the island, or when festivals, such as the February Carnival and the Dia de la Cruz in May are planned.

Passengers can leave Tenerife North Airport by bus or taxi as well. The bus stops and taxi rank are found just outside the arrivals area, and there are always taxis available. Taxis can take passengers to any destination on the island, but are more expensive than bus services. TITSA is the bus company responsible for public transport in Tenerife, and provide four routes from the airport. The buses travel to Santa Cruz de Tenerife, and to other northern locations, such as Puerto de la Cruz. Travelling by bus is always a popular means of transport, as it is cost effective, and the buses are modern and comfortable. Although there is a light rail system, or tram system, that offers effective transport in between certain northern towns of the island, there is no direct rail connection to the airport.

Tenerife North Airport is equipped with a number of useful facilities for both arriving and departing passengers. There are banking and currency exchange services available, a VIP lounge, pharmacy and medical center. Various shops and restaurants are found on the airside and landside of the building as well. Handling companies provide offices in the baggage reclaim area which will assist with any luggage that has been lost or damaged. Tenerife North Airport welcomes disabled passengers, and has the necessary facilities for their comfort, or further assistance for arrivals can be organized with the passenger's airline company.

Information and tourist desks are found in the arrivals area of Tenerife North Airport for all further enquiries regarding the airport's services or attractions in the vicinity of the airport.
